“Artificial intelligence tools are now playing a role in many aspects of life and society, spanning politics, the arts, work and beyond…”
A recent Pew Research Center survey reveals that Americans are more concerned than excited about the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in daily life. While 50% express concern, only 10% are more excited than concerned. A majority desire greater control over AI's role in their lives, with 61% seeking more influence, compared to 17% who are comfortable with the current level of control. Despite these concerns, many are open to AI assisting with day-to-day tasks and activities. Pew Research Center
Regarding AI's impact on human abilities, a significant portion of the public believes AI will erode, rather than enhance, people's capacity for creative thinking and forming meaningful relationships. Specifically, 53% think AI will worsen creative thinking, and 50% believe it will harm relationships. Conversely, 29% anticipate AI will improve problem-solving skills. Most Americans also feel it's crucial to distinguish between AI-generated and human-created content, though many lack confidence in their ability to make this distinction.
