REPORT
“AI is transforming nearly every aspect of our society…”
The 2025 Microsoft AI in Education Report provides a global overview of how generative AI is being adopted and perceived across K–12 and higher education. Drawing on surveys of educators, students, and institutional leaders, the report outlines key adoption trends, emerging use cases, and gaps in preparedness. It finds that AI use in education is growing rapidly, with most institutions now incorporating AI tools for instructional planning, personalized learning, administrative efficiency, and operational support.
At the same time, the report highlights several pressing challenges. It identifies a widening AI literacy gap, with many users employing AI tools without fully understanding their underlying mechanisms or implications. Concerns around academic integrity, data privacy, and equitable access are also noted. Microsoft emphasizes that AI should serve as a complement to, not a replacement for, human teaching and learning, calling for strategic implementation supported by strong institutional policies, accountability measures, and professional development.
